Alleja B. Quinansan and Bruce Denver P. Holman, two Senior High School students, under the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand, from Sacred Heart High School of Itogon Inc. (SHHSII) recently wrapped up a valuable 10-day immersion at the Sangguniang Bayan on January 28, 2025 in Poblacion, Itogon. This experience provided them with firsthand insights into the workings of local governance and allowed them to reflect on the lessons they learned along the way.
When asked about their initial impression of the Sangguniang Bayan Office, both Alleja and Bruce were surprised by the friendly and supportive atmosphere. “๐๐ต ๐ง๐ช๐ณ๐ด๐ต, ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ถ๐จ๐ฉ๐ต ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ง๐ง ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐ฃ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ต๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ต ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ท๐ช๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฅ ๐ฃ๐ฆ ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐บ ๐ด๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด”, said Alleja. “๐๐ถ๐ต ๐ข๐ด ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฅ๐ข๐บ๐ด ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต ๐ฃ๐บ, ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐บ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ง๐ง๐ช๐ค๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ข๐ด ๐ฉ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ญ๐ฆ, ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ข๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ, ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฉ๐ถ๐ด๐ช๐ข๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ค ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ช๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐น๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต๐ข๐ฃ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ซ๐ฐ๐บ๐ข๐ฃ๐ญ๐ฆ”. She also mentioned that, over the past two weeks, theyโve observed how the staff worked with the clients and thus they were very happy with what they saw. Bruce added, “๐ ๐ฆ๐น๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ค๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ง๐ง๐ช๐ค๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ฃ๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ง๐ฐ๐ค๐ถ๐ด๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ฑ๐ข๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฌ, ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ต ๐ช๐ต ๐ธ๐ข๐ด ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ช๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐ต๐ช๐ท๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ฆ-๐ค๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฅ”.
Throughout their immersion, both students gained practical skills, particularly in technical areas. “๐๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ด๐ต ๐ช๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ด ๐ ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ธ๐ข๐ด ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ถ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฃ๐ช๐จ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ค๐ข๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฆ๐ด๐ด”, said Alleja. Vice Mayor Hon. Dante Alain Xavier D. Godio, together with the councilors, expressed their sincere gratitude to Alleja and Bruce for their dedication and valuable contributions during their internship. They acknowledged that the two internsโ enthusiasm, hard work, and fresh perspectives had been a great asset to the Sangguniang Bayan. The Vice Mayor and councilors are confident that their experiences will guide them in their future endeavors in public service.
Their 10-day immersion at the Sangguniang Bayan of Itogon was more than just an educational experience as it was also a transformative journey that deepened their passion for public service. Armed with new skills, a stronger work ethic, and a greater appreciation for teamwork, Alleja and Bruce are now more determined than ever to pursue careers in politics and public service.
