On August 29, 2024, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Council (MENRC), through Mr. Jason B. Banisoc, Municipal Forester I, and Hon. Laurencio R. Carantes, Barangay Kagawad, who served as the resource speakers, led a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign on Solid Waste Management at the Barangay Hall, Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet.
Hon. Carantes said they sent invitation letters to the different business establishments, operating within Barangay Poblacion, inviting them to attend the campaign. The assembly was attended by representatives from Sitio Goldfield, Sitio Lucbuban, Purok 1, 2, and 3, Trese Pool, and Maranas Cafรฉ, and representatives from Solomon-Solano Elementary School.
During the FGD on the IEC campaign, locals were given the opportunity to express their questions, opinions, and recommendations regarding waste issues in the Barangay during the open forum. The resource speakers acknowledged the concerns raised and shared their expertise on proper solid waste management strategies.
Hon. Flordeliza G. Depayso, the Barangay Captain of Poblacion, Itogon, emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline among locals, particularly business owners, in adhering to proper waste management regulations, especially waste segregation.
Hon. Carantes expressed his hopes during the FGD. He is optimistic that by holding this session as part of the IEC campaign, locals will take the lessons to heart and apply them to address the growing garbage problem in the barangay.

The locals shared their collective opinions.
