𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗥𝗖 𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗔 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗔𝗧 𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗬 𝗗𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗣

To involve youth in Solid waste management and to protect the environment, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Council (MENRC) – Committee on Environment Management conducted Community Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) at the Gymnasium, Dalupirip Proper, Itogon on September 12, 2024.

Further, participants of the said event are students in grades 11 and 12 of Laurencio Fianza National High School (LFNHS), Supreme Student Leader Government (SSLG), and Youth for Environment Schools Organization (Yes-O) Officers.

Lean Jobelle Soley, a Grade 12 Student said that she learned about special waste and hazardous waste, she also added that it gives them information and the realization to start segregating their waste. Also, Wyler C. Melis, a Grade 12 student, said he would share the information he learned through his friends and family.

Mr. Mark Anthony P. Solano, from EMB-CAR, discussed RA 9003, Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. Further, he also added statistical status that each person contributes 25% of environmental waste.

In addition, Mr. Edward Dacnes demonstrated how to segregate waste types such as recyclables, compostables, and residuals. Mr. Jason B. Banisoc also explained the Municipal Ordinance regarding waste to the participants.

The Committee on Environment Management anticipates that more educational institutions and barangays will approach MENRO to conduct community education and public awareness campaigns about the environment in their respective schools and barangays.// Diana Katrixia Kawi Bayas
