On August 21, 2024, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Council (MENRC) through the Committee of Environmental Management and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) spearheaded the Focus Group Discussion (FDG), and Community Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) drive on Solid Waste Management in Sitio Cayoco, Tinongdan, Itogon.
The FDG-CEPA is in line with RA 9003, as well as the outreach program efforts of the committee. The constituents of Barangay Tinongdan participated in and attended the activity as mentioned earlier.
Along with other resource people, Mr. Jason Banisoc and Mr. Jones Bauzon from MENRO presented the correct technique to segregate garbage, prompting the constituents and resource people to exchange and share information, opinions, and other questions regarding segregation.
Mr. Edward Dacnes, a waste collector, spoke about the community’s goal of becoming a zero-waste municipality. As a result, he highlighted the significance of having discipline in correctly sorting waste before delivering it to pick-up locations, as this will also make waste collection easier.

( the organized activity is beneficial for the community especially youths for they are the next generation who will protect our environment).
RA 9003, also known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, aims to ensure the proper segregation, collection, transportation, storage, treatment, and disposal of solid waste through the formulation and adaption of the best environmental practices in ecological waste management. – Glendelle Melis Baniwas
